Canadian Company in Ottawa is
Printing Money for Somali Warlords
A Canadian company by the name British American Banknote Co., based in Ottawa -
a subsidiary of Quebecor- has been printing large amounts of money for Somali
Warlords, as reported in the the attached article from the National Post of Canada on the
23rd June 99. The money printed in Canada arrived in Somalia in several batches and
destablized the fragile economy. The warlords are using the proceeds from this operation
to finance the aggression and civil war activities which had intensified in the
country in the last weeks. British American Banknote Co. of Ottawa may not be
violating Canadian Laws in its money-printing activities, but surely is contributing
indirectly to the suffering and death of many Somalis as the Warlords are using the money
to perpetuate the lawlessness and the suffering of the Somali people. SOMALIA WATCH
Organization would like to bring this serious matter to the attention of the Canadian
authorities and to the British American Banknote Co. of Ottawa. SOMALIA WATCH Organization
also hopes that the British American Banknote Co. of Ottawa will realise the serious
implications of this money-printing activities and stop
