Is it Time to
Re-think the Somali Crises??
Based on the report of the
General Secretary's to the Security Council on the situation in Somalia, it is encouraging
to see the world body (UN) at least picking up the Somali issue again, and what is more
encouraging, this time is the fact that the General Secretary is asking for a
fundamental re-thinking of the Somali Issue by the World Community. The Somali Crises is
affecting the peace and stability of, not only Somalia but, the whole Eastern Regions
of Africa. Proxy wars of nations with different agendas and scores to settle are
being fought in Somalia. Somalia Watch Organization (SW) in earlier releases - Re-thinking the Role of the Somali Aid Coordination Body (SACB), SOMALIA'S
COASTAL WATERS ARE AMONG THE MOST DANGEROUS IN THE WORLD, The
Danger from the Horn of Africa, Somali warlords rearming
for another round of fighting dealt with the subject matter raised by the General
Secretary in more specific terms. These reports and others related to the Somali Issues
can be read from Somalia Watch Home Page. It is encouraging that the report has made
direct reference to the need to support the building up of the civil society from the
bottom-up and support the fledgling local administrations set up in Northwest (Somaliland)
and Northeast(Puntland).
SW hopes that the Security
Council will live upto its responsibilities and put in action, the recommendations ( or at
least some of it) of General Secretary's Report.
