Elders of PL decide to support the extension of Government Mandate
SW- Garowe, 25 June, 2001 - Islaan Mohamed Islaan Muse, one of of the most prominent
traditional leaders in Puntland has thrown his weight behind the drive to extend the
Mandate of the Puntland Administration. Sources report that Islaan Mohamed and the
majority of the Puntland Traditional Leaders are now in line with the findings of the Election Committee which
recently released its report recommending to postpone the elections. However,
sources add that the duration of extending the government mandate is still not specified.
Sources also reported that the Traditional
Leader's decision was conveyed to the State House of Representatives for consideration. It
is expected that the House is now in a position to issue a formal resolution on the
matter in the next few days.
