Buuhoodle Incident

Garowe,
October 3, 2000
PRESS
STATEMENT ON TODAY’S BUUHOODLE INCIDENT
This
is to express the disappointment of the Government of PUNTLAND STATE
Of SOMALIA with the Administration of Somaliland to send uninvited
high-level delegation to the District of Buuhoodle.
We
consider this act reckless provocation on the part of Somaliland. By
doing, the Egal Administration put at risk the personal safety of his
delegation and the peace in Buuhoodle District.
Surprisingly,
this hostile action is being conducted by the authorities in
Somaliland while the relations between the two states has never been
better before.
Before
considering any retaliatory response, Garowe demands immediate apology
in good faith from Egal’s Administration and serious commitment on
the part of the authorities there to refrain from such provocative
activities against Puntland State of Somalia in the future.
This
is also to refute and deny the version of the information reported
today by BBC Correspondent, Mr. Egeh, from Hargeisa on Buuhoodle
incident. The correct version of the information is that the
Somaliland delegation was uninvited guests and inhabitants and
District Authorities rose against the intruders.
