ENDANGERING WORLD PEACE BY
PROPPING UP A TALIBAN TYPE REGIME IN SOMALIA.
Excellencies,
Puntland State of Somalia is very much concerned with the recent
Security Councils overture to extend assistance blindly to the terrorist-allied
Group under the name of "Transitional National
Government of Somalia following the statement by that Groups
Representative at Security Councils Meeting on Somalia recently.
The UN Security Council has rightly asserted that Somalia is a failed
state and risks being a safe haven for international fugitives, but UN shouldnt make
the mistake of propping up a "Taliban type regime" in Somalia by supporting a
Group created by Al-Qaeda-allied fundamentalist groups like Al-Itihad, Islamist Courts and
sympathizers of the terrorist groups. Puntland State and the other democratic forces in
Somalia, which have been trying to re-resurrect "the failed state", were amazed
to read the Security Councils recent statement on supporting the Arta Group at the
expense of the democratic forces in Somalia or recognizing it as a representative
administrative in Somalia.
Your Excellencies,
Earlier, a Representative of the Arta Group told the Security Council
that if his calls for greater aid and assistance to his Group were ignored,
Somalia could become another haven for international terrorist groups and drug
traffickers." The reality though is that any assistance given to this Group would be
suicidal by the international community and a new threat to world peace and security,
since it is one of the organizations, which has direct links with international terrorism.
One would recall that the United States America slipped into the same
mistake when the CIA encouraged, supported and armed what has now been recognized as
terrorist groups in Afghanistan.
The externally organized and funded Arta Group (TNG) now being
underpinned by the UN Security Council, as was evident in its recent statement, is just
another Al-Qaeda in the making, only different in name. It is founded, funded, and
cherished by terrorist groups. These evil forces conspired against and are trying to
destabilize the peaceful parts like Puntland State to deny Somalia of the adoption of
federal democratic process. Puntland State of Somalia is a living witness and victim of
this Groups designs and strategy.
Excellencies,
Puntland appeals to the Secretary General of the United Nations and the
international community in general to reconsider the Security Councils recent
statement on Somalia. The recent recommendation of the UN Security Council is incompatible
with the international communitys endeavour to come down hard on international
terrorism.
Puntland State of Somalia would like to urge the international
community to save Somalia from being a haven of international terrorist by supporting a
democratic process of building blocks instead of propping up
blindly extremist and terrorist-allied groups like Arta Faction under the excuse of
containing a danger to world peace coming up from a failed state
like Somalia.
Thank you,
Abdullahi Yusuf Ahmed
The President of Puntland State of Somalia
