Security forces in Kenya's Northeastern Province have been put on high alert following
threats of attack from a Somali militia, the Kenyan newspaper 'Daily Nation' web site,
accessed on Friday, reported.
The newspaper quoted Northeastern Provincial Commissioner Maurice Makhanu as saying
that Somali Patriotic Movement rebels were planning to make raids into Kenya in search of
the rival Auliyahan clan militia.
Makhanu denied that Kenya was harbouring the militia and said that Kenya would repel
any incursion from Somalia.
"We have tolerated them for too long and Kenya will from now on safeguard its
territorial sovereignty and any attempt from any quarter to abuse it will be dealt with
with the necessary force," he said.
Heavy fighting between the two rival clans over the control of the Somalia border town of Doblai last week left more than 50 dead and
scores of others seriously wounded, the newspaper added.
