Fierce fighting broke out between two rival militia groups in Qoryooley town,
Shabeellaha Hoose Region [southeastern Somalia], yesterday
afternoon.
Latest reports received last night said the fighting took place in the town of
Qoryooley between the DSA [Digil Salvation Army] militia and forces of the Islamic courts,
which arrived in the town recently.
A DSA spokesman based in Mogadishu, Ahmad Abdi, told `Qaran' that the fighting was
between his militia and what he called supporters of [Mogadishu faction leader] Husayn
Muhammad Aydid and Al-Ittihad [Islamist group].
He said his forces killed 13 rival militiamen and wounded 19 others, while his side
suffered four deaths and seven wounded. However, the casualty figures have not been
independently confirmed.
